January often invites reflection. It asks us to pause—if only briefly—to consider what we’ve carried forward, what we’ve learned, and what we’re being called to build next.
For Stonewall Columbus, that pause matters.
We begin 2026 with deep gratitude for the community that sustains us and with a clear-eyed understanding of the work ahead. Ours is a moment that calls for both honesty and hope—an ability to hold complexity while continuing to move forward with intention.
Across the country, LGBTQ+ people are navigating a landscape that is increasingly uneven and, at times, openly hostile. Hard-fought progress is being challenged. Protections are debated. Lives and identities are too often politicized. And yet—here in Central Ohio—we continue to demonstrate what it looks like to lead with visibility, inclusion, connection, and accountability. Not as aspirational language, but as daily practice.
At Stonewall Columbus, 2026 will be a year of strengthening what holds us steady: our programs, our people, our partnerships, and the physical space that has served as a home for community for decades. It will also be a year of asking—and answering—bigger questions about sustainability, impact, and stewardship. How do we ensure that Stonewall remains here not only for today’s needs, but for the generations who will look to this place for belonging, care, and connection in the years ahead?
You’ll see that focus reflected across our work. In Stonewall Thrives, our annual campaign centered on sustaining core programs. In the continued evolution of Pride 365, which recognizes that Pride is not confined to a single month but is a year-round commitment to community engagement and care. And in the ways we continue to show up for individuals and families seeking navigation, affirmation, and a place to belong through programs like C.A.R.E.S. and The Center.
Thriving is not accidental. It is built—carefully and collectively—through shared responsibility, shared investment, and shared hope.
As this year begins, I want to express my sincere gratitude—for your trust, your engagement, and your belief in this work. Whether you connect with Stonewall through programs, advocacy, events, volunteering, or simply by knowing we’re here when needed, you are part of what makes this community strong.
Thank you for entering 2026 with us. Together, we will continue to build a Stonewall—and a city and a region—where LGBTQ+ people are not only seen, but supported, protected, and able to thrive.
With gratitude, resolve, and pride,
Densil Porteous (he/they)
Executive Director, Stonewall Columbus
