September 2024, marks the anniversary of Stonewall Columbus, and we are reflecting on our incredible journey since 1981. Born from the community’s response to the Moral Majority, Stonewall Columbus has grown from a grassroots activist group into a vital pillar of support for the LGBTQ+ community in Central Ohio.
Over the years, we’ve evolved to meet the changing needs of our community. From the establishment of our first community center in the 1980s to our 15,000-square-foot facility today, Stonewall has been a safe space for support, education, and advocacy.
This year’s Ohio Historical Marker recognition further solidifies our legacy, commemorating our contributions to LGBTQ+ rights and acknowledging our role in building an inclusive and resilient community. As we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on the future—ensuring that every voice is heard, every identity celebrated, and every person supported.
