At Stonewall Columbus, we stand firmly in defense of equality, justice, and the fundamental right to love and marry freely. Today’s decision by the United States Supreme Court to reject Kim Davis’ appeal is a clear affirmation that marriage equality—secured through Obergefell v. Hodges—remains the law of the land.
By declining to hear Davis’ case, the Court refused to reopen a settled question and sent a powerful message: no public official is above the Constitution, and discrimination has no place in government service. Davis’ actions denied same-sex couples their lawful rights; today’s outcome affirms that such actions carry real accountability.
Still, this moment is a reminder that progress is never permanent without vigilance. Across the country, LGBTQ+ rights continue to face legislative and cultural attacks—from efforts to erase inclusive education to restrictions on healthcare and family recognition. We must meet these challenges not with fear, but with renewed resolve.
Love remains love. Equality remains our shared promise. And Stonewall Columbus will continue to stand on the front lines—defending visibility, inclusion, and connection for all members of our community.
