You are Invited to attend the Dream It Do It Citizen Summit

Dream It Do It was introduced by Mayor Coleman earlier this year as an opportunity to get the community involved in thinking big and sharing ideas for the future of Columbus. It is designed to be an inclusive process that generates widespread involvement that reflects the city’s diversity. The initiative began over the summer when a mobile kiosk known as the “Think Tank” was used to gather ideas from citizens at festivals, concerts, markets, and other public events. Thousands of ideas were gathered through the “Think Tank” and other methods.

Karla Rothan, Executive Director of Stonewall Columbus was asked to be one of three chairs of the Diversity focus group. The members of the Commission are responsible for taking the public’s ideas and using that input to identify projects, programs, and capital improvements to enhance quality of life throughout the city. These projects will potentially be supported by Bicentennial Capital Bond Package, which the public will vote on next fall.

Stonewall Columbus is asking that you get involved in the process as well. An event called the Citizen Summit is going to take place on January 29th at the Convention Center. The Summit is designed to draw 1,000 people to hear about the process and provide more feedback about community priorities. Stonewall’s ED Karla Rothan is hosting a table of 10 people, and it would be great if you could join us. There is no cost to attend.

At the Summit there will be several key speakers (Mayor Coleman, Gordon Gee, Abigail Wexner, Bishop Timothy Clarke, and nationally prominent speaker). There will also be opportunities to discuss ideas with our table and vote on questions using wireless keypads. RSVPs are required for this event, so be sure to let me know if you’re interested in coming. Our LGBTQIA community is being asked to be involved so let’s do it!
