Stonewall Columbus Pride 2015 PIT Crew (Pride in Training)

Stonewall Columbus Pride 2016 PIT Crew (Pride in Training)

The 2016 PIT Crew gives you the chance to experience Pride in a whole new way! This is a high level volunteer position that involves more responsibility and a larger time commitment than is required of our general Pride volunteers. Sign-ups for general volunteers will open in mid-April, and will include many opportunities during the Pride Festival. If you are looking to volunteer for one or two shifts, you will want to wait for general volunteer sign-ups.

We are looking for passionate individuals who are committed to doing service for the LGBTQ community to take part in our PIT Crew. Members of the PIT Crew will work with Pride Committee Members for meetings leading up to and including Pride, and will work with a small team in your specific area of interest. This will give you invaluable experience and a chance to connect with other individuals who are committed to bringing Pride to Columbus. PIT Crew is also the first step toward becoming a Pride Committee member if you want to have an even larger part in Pride in the coming years.

As a member of the PIT Crew, you must be willing to deal with large amounts of down time as well as be ready to handle the crowds and chaos that Pride brings– you will be monitoring the park and need to be ready to assist your Committee member at any time. We are the first ones in the park and the last to leave. All PIT Crew members must be flexible and willing to jump in to help as general volunteers when needed.

Requirements:

  • Must be available to work all Pride Weekend (June 17th and 18th).
  • You will be expected to attend PIT meetings.
  • Be willing to deal with fluctuation in work intensity.
  • Skill requirements vary based on position.
  • Time commitment will vary based on position.
  • Must be 18 or older.

Available PIT Crew Positions and Descriptions:

  1. Procurement: Assist in the purchase and delivery of Pride supplies. This position is more intensive leading up to Pride weekend and following the close of the festival. Organization and management skills may be useful.
  2. Festival Logistics: Assist with distribution of communication devices and transportation vehicles during the festival. Help oversee Pride festival authorized area. Will have lots of down time during the festival, may be suited for individuals who cannot stand for long periods. May require some lifting.
  3. Volunteer Coordination: Assist with pre-festival communication with Pride volunteers; assist with check-in and placement during the festival. Assist in distribution of food and beverage to Pride volunteers. Help to run and organize the Volunteer Tent. Manage small issues throughout the park.
  4. Beverage: Assist Beverage Chair in logistics and running of Stonewall beverage trucks during the festival. Must be over 21. Assist with beverage training leading up to Pride. Act as a liaison between beverage trucks, Pride Committee, and distributors during the festival.
  5. Pride Coordination: Work closely with Pride Coordinator to implement overall festival logistics, permitting and festival vendor services. Ensure the festival runs smoothly, including public facilities and vendor issues.
  6. Vendor Liaison: Assist with check-in and placement of Pride festival vendors. Help ensure that vendors and sponsors festival needs and requests are met.
  7. Festival Layout: Assist festival chair in designing and implementing vendor placement and overall festival layout designations.
