Stonewall Columbus would like to publicly thank the Columbus Stompers for their recent donation of $4500 to renovate 3 rooms upstairs in the Stonewall Community Center. The Stompers raised this money over the past year through several benefits and fundraisers they held. “The Stompers have supported the community ongoing for over 15 years so it was really quite moving when they decided to donate this amount to cover the costs of certain renovations improving our center for the community.” stated Michael Dutcher, Director of Operations for Stonewall. “We are so pleased that the Stompers are supporting the Stonewall Community Center and our renovation efforts. We have partnered on many projects in the past, but this is particularly meaningful because as a community organization, the Stompers recognize the value in improving and enhancing Central Ohio’s only GLBT Center, and thus, this gift truly benefits the entire community.” stated Kellye Pinkleton, Interim Executive Director.
Formed in 1990, The Columbus Stompers are dedicated to supporting the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community in the promotion of Country and Western music and dancing. Through benefits, fundraisers, and annual Hoedown dances, Columbus’ only gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Country/Western Dance Club, the Columbus Stompers has donated over $55,000 to local community organizations. Dan Poeppelman, the president of the Columbus Stompers stated “The Columbus Stompers are always looking for ways to help and promote the GLBT community, and when approached by Stonewall and asked to help fund a community room the motion was unanimously passed. We all thought it would be a great way for Stonewall to reach out even further in the community with a great multi purpose space.”
