Stonewall Columbus Plans Interfaith Forum

Tired of hearing politicians whining about the “sanctity” of marriage? Feeling disconnected from your church or faith of origin? Wishing you could find a group to connect with based on spirituality, ideals and/or a belief system? Then join Stonewall Columbus for our first annual Interfaith Event.

Stonewall Columbus is hosting an interfaith event on Sunday, March 28th for faith groups friendly to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. Working with a committee of diverse community members, Stonewall has formed a planning committee representing a variety of religions, beliefs, philosophies, and ideals to ensure this gathering is truly an interfaith event. Planning committee and organization members participating with Stonewall Columbus include:

Eric Peters, Event Coordinator
Siggy Benedict, “Welcoming” Coordinator
All Believers’ Community Church
Beacon Fellowship
Delaware Unitarian Universalist Church
First Unitarian Universalist Church
Humanist Community of Central Ohio
Lutherans Concerned
Master’s Commission New Covenant Church
Maynard Avenue United Methodist Church
New Creation Metropolitan Community Church
North Columbus Meeting of the Society of Friends (Quakers)
Qualia
Shepherd Initiative
Soulforce
Steve Sandaluk (former Navy Chaplain)
United Church of Christ Coalition for LGBT Concerns
Trinity Episcopal Church
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church

Stonewall Columbus Interfaith Forum projects aim to educate the community both about religious diversity and about support given GLBT folks by faith groups, to recognize faith groups for such support, to integrate GLBT and diverse faith communities by identifying opportunities for GLBT folks to participate in communities based on diverse religious and other belief systems, and to provide safe spaces and comfortable environments for individuals to work on conciliation of any personal issues they may have related to faith.

The event will be 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm and will be held at the Short Stop Youth Center at 1066 N. High St. Stonewall is also compiling a directory of these groups. For more information on the event, directory or how to participate contact either J. Eric Peters (Coordinator, Stonewall Columbus Interfaith Forum) or Kellye Pinkleton (Center Director, Stonewall Columbus) at 614-299-7764.
