What inspired you to become a Stonewall Columbus member?
I’ve always believed in the power of visibility and using our voices to contribute to something bigger than ourselves—Stonewall Columbus embodies that. Beyond its mission, I deeply believe in the leadership of Stonewall Columbus. Densil and his team roll up their sleeves and do the work every single day. From providing critical resources and support to those in need to advocating for our collective voice and serving as a beacon of hope in our community, their commitment is unwavering.
Despite ongoing challenges—legislative attacks, social pushback, and discrimination—the LGBTQIA+ movement continues to push forward with strength, determination, and adaptability. Activists, community leaders, and allies fight for progress, ensuring visibility and building support networks that protect and uplift LGBTQIA+ individuals. Stonewall Columbus embodies all of this and more. Our community needs Stonewall—it’s non-negotiable.
What does being part of the LGBTQ+ community in Columbus mean to you?
It means family. It means resilience. Columbus has such a strong and diverse LGBTQ+ presence, and being part of this community is about lifting each other up, making sure no one feels alone, and pushing for continued progress. Whether in professional settings, schools, or everyday life, I want to help create an environment where people can show up as their full, authentic selves—without hesitation and without fear.
Can you share a memorable experience you’ve had within the Stonewall Columbus community?
Pride, every year! Stonewall Columbus makes Pride happen, and walking in the parade is an experience I cherish for myself and my family. There’s nothing like marching down High Street, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of people, all there to celebrate life and each other. You can see, hear, and feel the love. It’s an incredible experience that reminds us why visibility and community matter.
What message of pride or encouragement would you share with others in the community?
Your authenticity is your power. No matter where you are in life, you deserve to take up space, be celebrated, and know that you are part of something bigger. Keep building, keep showing up, and keep advocating—not just for yourself, but for those who still need to find their voice.
The challenges we face—whether legislative attacks, discrimination, or social resistance—are real, but so is our resilience. Our community has always found a way forward, and we will continue to do so. Together, we are unstoppable.
If you could describe Pride in one word, what would it be?
Unstoppable.
