“I’m a Ph.D. candidate in Materials Science and Engineering at OSU, which is what brought me to Columbus in the fall of 2017. Throughout my whole career, I’ve worked with computational modeling in different areas of physics. Throughout my Ph.D., I’ve worked with coarse-grained modeling of polymer nanocomposites using Molecular Dynamics and Monte Carlo methods. I signed up to be a member because I’ve been meaning to get more involved with the community for a long time. My Ph.D. has always been extremely time-consuming, though, so I never really actively worked towards finding the time to actually do anything. I saw the flyer for the Time Out event on social media and decided it could be nice to go check it out. The flyer mentioned something about membership. I looked into it further and decided that becoming a member could be a nice way to support the community while I don’t consistently spend time on any particular task relevant to the community. I think it’s important to engage with social causes and grassroots activism in general (through non-profits or somehow else) as a person (student or non) as a moral imperative. Societies should be fair. We all know they are not. It is not a favor we do but our moral duty to engage and fight to change that reality to the best of our abilities.”
