Today, as the Ohio House overrode the Governor’s veto on HB 68, we at Stonewall Columbus stand deeply concerned and direct opposition. This bill that threatens the well-being of our LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender and non-binary youth, now moves to the Ohio Senate for an override vote. The Senate is expected to take action on January 24th. If the veto is overridden, HB 68 will become law 90 days later, bringing significant and detrimental changes to gender-affirming healthcare in in the state.
We cannot overstate the urgency of this moment.
The passage of HB 68 represents a direct attack on the freedoms and rights of individuals to access essential healthcare. In alignment with expert medical opinion, we reaffirm that gender-affirming healthcare is not just a right but a necessity for the health and well-being of transgender individuals.
We call upon our community, accomplices, and all who stand for justice and equality to raise their voices against this legislation. Your engagement is critical in this pivotal time. Stonewall Columbus is more committed than ever to fighting for the rights and dignity of the LGBTQ+ community. We stand in solidarity, ready to support and advocate tirelessly.
In these challenging times, we must unite in our efforts to create a future where every individual is respected and their rights are upheld. The fight is not over, and together, we can make a difference.
