Stonewall Columbus Board of Trustees appoints Karla Rothan as the Interim Center Director of the organization. Karla Rothan’s background as a customer service manager, cofounder of a non profit theatre company and public relations coordinator with a city agency make her an excellent choice for Stonewall Columbus. “We are pleased to have Karla Rothan on staff. Her knowledge of our community, her skill set and her fundraising experience will be a tremendous asset to the organization,” boasts Board of Trustees President, Dr. Jim Ford. He continues, “I am not shocked in the least that she has created a seamless transition for our center,” said Jim. Karla has taken a break from her business, Restoration Rentals, to move Stonewall Columbus forward as it embarks on another year of effective programming for the community. “What an exciting time to be a part of Stonewall Columbus,” Rothan said. “I had no idea how many people are served through the Stonewall Community Center.”
On a daily basis Stonewall manages an intake and referral desk for our community. Each year, for over twenty five years, hundreds of people come to 1160 N. High Street, the community center, and they need help. Some have been denied by their families, some are looking for legal direction and some just want to find out what is happening this week for LGBT members. “The Stonewall Columbus Community Center makes them feel at home when others won’t,” comments Rothan.
First up for Rothan is the Stonewall annual event, A Night Out, slated for late October. This event is the center’s signature fundraiser and awards ceremony. It is a chance for Stonewall Columbus to honor community leaders that have made a positive impact on our LGBT citizens this year. “Plans are underway for a spectacular night that will make us all feel powerful about living in Columbus and being a member of this LGBT family.
