At Stonewall Columbus, we stand unwavering in defense of the rights and dignity of LGBTQ+ people, including the freedom to marry the person you love without fear of discrimination or obstruction. The petition recently filed in the Supreme Court case involving Kim Davis seeks not only to excuse the harm caused to same-sex couples in Kentucky but to dismantle the landmark decision in Obergefell v. Hodges that guarantees marriage equality nationwide.
This is not simply a legal maneuver; it is a direct attempt to roll back hard-fought protections and relegate LGBTQ+ people to second-class citizenship. As an organization committed to visibility, inclusion, connection, and accountability, we reject any effort that would undo decades of progress toward equality.
Marriage equality is settled law and a vital affirmation of our shared humanity. We call on our community, allies, accomplices, and leaders at all levels to stand firm against this injustice and ensure that love, equality, and freedom remain the law of the land.
