Trailblazers – Columbus Symphony Orchestra – Dvorák: Symphony No. 9, ‘From the New World’
February 3 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm EST
Enjoy the music of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra on February 3rd at 10:00AM in the Ohio Theatre. There are three great pieces on the program.
“This Land” by Carlos Simon. This piece is inspired by Emma Lazarus’ gentle, welcoming words in her poem, ‘New Colossus’ as inscribed on the Statue of Liberty. Lush , bright harmonies in the strings are used to represent hope and unity.
“Violin Concerto” by Samuel Barber. Praised for her evocative lyricism and joyful, genuine approach, guest violinist Aubree Oliverson masterfully performs Barber’s Concerto.
“Symphony No. 9, From the New World” by Antonin Dvorak. There are few pieces in the repertoire that have inspired audiences like Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9. Deep rooted in American folk traditions, Dvorak composed this grand work while living in New York, taking inspiration from the sights and sounds of “The New World”.
We will meet at the King Avenue Church for our ride to the Ohio Theatre. The bus will leave promptly at 9:30 so please be a bit early. Tickets are $14.00 + Service Charge. The signup button is below.
