Author Event – A LIFE WORTH FIGHTING FOR by Malcolm Varner-Brown

July 11, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

Join author, Malcom Varner-Brown, to celebrate his latest publication, A LIFE WORTH FIGHTING FOR

About the book:

All hell breaks loose on Antwon’s twenty-first birthday when he and his girlfriend, Tasha, are discovered making out by his mother, Rhonda, in her very own kitchen. Oblivious to the fact that Antwon was in a relationship to begin with, she, more than anything, is outraged to learn that Tasha is transgender. After refusing to accept Antwon’s explanation of Tasha’s womanhood, Rhonda asks him to leave her house for good.

With less than a few options at his disposal, Antwon turns to Cincinnati’s largest homeless shelter for men, The Rescue, for help. Displacement, however, is just the start of his problems. His ex-girlfriend, who also happens to be the mother of his two-year-old child, decides to petition the court to end his visitation rights after she discovers the details of his relationship with Tasha. As pressure mounts with the pretrial hearing, bad news at work, and an unforeseen betrayal, Antwon’s anxiety and depression ultimately reach their peak, at which point he questions his own existence. His subsequent actions lead him to a downtown bridge, where he must decide to jump or live.
