After more than five years as a staff member, Stonewall Columbus Interim Executive Director, Kellye Pinkleton, announces she is leaving the organization to be the Field Director for the Jennifer Brunner Campaign for Secretary of State.
“This is an incredible opportunity for me to join the Brunner for Secretary of State Team and have a key role in restoring integrity to the office,” says an enthusiastic Pinkleton. “While it is difficult to leave my position at Stonewall, I am looking forward to this new opportunity, supporting Jennifer and the campaign and ensuring a victory not only for our community, but all Ohioans in November.”
Pinkleton began her journey with Stonewall Columbus as a volunteer in 1998. During her tenure she served as the full-time Center Coordinator then Director of Programming. She has spent the past ten months as the Interim Executive Director. Over the years, Kellye was involved in every aspect of the organization, including volunteer coordination, programming, operations and event planning. After her appointment as the Interim Executive Director, she continued leading volunteers and directing programs. Financial accountability was a priority for Pinkleton as she worked to implement sound financial systems, balance budgets and eliminate any organizational debt.
“I am humbled by the overwhelming community support that exists for Stonewall Columbus and I have had the opportunity to witness first-hand the direct impact that the organization has had on the lgbt and allied communities we serve,” Pinkleton states. “I am able to leave knowing that I have fulfilled my personal and professional goals. I am proud to have been a part of a collective effort to improve Stonewall Columbus, with assistance from the Board of Trustees, volunteers and community leaders.” Pinkleton recognizes, “It is impossible not to be energized by the community, particularly the volunteer team.” She is looking forward to continuing to serve Stonewall as a volunteer. “I will continue to help out as needed and have already made a few commitments to assist in the future.”
“We are very sorry to see Kellye go as she has been a consistent face for the organization over the years and truly understands those we serve, but this is a wonderful opportunity for her and we wish her only the best,” says Stonewall Columbus Board of Trustees President, Jim Ford. According to Ford, the organization’s leadership already is looking at several options to maintain the agency’s programs and services. Ford assures the public that operation of the Community Center will continue without interruption. “Following the success of Pride Holiday 2006, Stonewall is in a solid position to strategically plan for the future of the Center,” Ford said.
“I will miss so many things about serving this community, but by far the most rewarding experience has been the wonderful relationships that I have formed with community members and volunteers. Our volunteer team uplifted me personally and is key to the success of Stonewall Columbus,” states Pinkleton.
Upon the departure of the Interim Executive Director, President Dr. Jim Ford will serve as the point person for the organization. If you have any questions, you may contact him at wnzrfosbeq@nby.pbz.
