Columbus, OH — March 2025 — Stonewall Columbus announces Virginia West (Chris Equizi), a legendary figure in the Columbus LGBTQ+ community, as the 2025 Patron of Pride. Renowned for their energetic performances, heartfelt advocacy, and decades of community impact, Virginia West embodies the essence of the Stonewall Columbus Patron of Pride.
The Patron of Pride distinction is rooted in the history of the LGBTQ+ movement. Inspired by the courage of activists like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera during, this honor acknowledges those who fight tirelessly for equality, visibility, and community.
For over 30 years, Virginia West has been a vibrant presence in Columbus, captivating audiences with her performances that blend a variety of musical influences, including icons like Madonna and Bon Jovi. Beyond her entertainment prowess, Virginia has used her platform to uplift LGBTQ+ voices, foster inclusion, and build community through both artistry and advocacy.
Her leadership of the House of West has resulted in over $2 million raised for local and national charities, including Mozaic, Pets Without Parents, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This philanthropic legacy demonstrates her unwavering commitment to creating a more compassionate world.
Virginia also serves as a mentor to the next generation of drag performers, inspiring authenticity, and creativity in their work. “Be authentically you,” she advises, a message that has shaped her career and continues to resonate with the LGBTQ+ community.
“Virginia West’s impact extends far beyond the stage,” said Densil Porteous, Executive Director of Stonewall Columbus. “Her commitment to empowering others and her dedication to giving back reflect the spirit of Pride. As our Patron of Pride for 2025, Virginia embodies the strength, resilience, and unity we celebrate this year.”
Virginia West will play a role in the 2025 Pride March & Festival, engaging with the community at key events. Her contributions build on the legacy of past Patrons of Pride, including Zhané Dawlingz (2024), Caleb Mikayla Goins Robinson (2023), Carmen Carrera (2022), and Anisa Love (2021).
“I am deeply honored to be named the 2025 Patron of Pride,” said West/Equizi. “Columbus is my home, and the LGBTQ+ community here is my heart. Together, we’ve created something extraordinary, and I’m excited to celebrate our unity and resilience not just this Pride season but three hundred and sixty-five days a year.”
Virginia West will officially receive this honor during the Stonewall Pride Brunch on June 1st, 2025.
