InsideOUT: Stonewall Columbus LGBTQ Formerly Incarcerated Support Program
This program was created to act as a bridge to support, encourage and provide robust resources to LGBTQ formerly incarcerated individuals that are re-entering the mainstream population. As if the psychological, economic and societal burdens on the heterosexual formerly incarcerated individual attempting re-entry weren’t difficult enough, in addition our LGBTQ formerly incarcerated community often finds themselves also abandoned by family and their faith communities due to the still disfavored minority status of the larger LGBTQ community. This program will sincerely attempt to alleviate some of those rehabilitational disparities and connect them with their local community and peers.
The LGBTQ formerly incarcerated support group offers bi-weekly support group meetings at Stonewall Columbus. These meetings are to be facilitated by re-entry professionals and will focus on peer support, shared experience and foster familiarity with LGBTQ local organizations, programs and social events to encourage impactful engagement with the local LGBTQ community. Facilitation may also eventually include case worker supervision which would provide assistance with seeking employment, applying for benefits, legal assistance, mental health counseling and any other services that may enhance the prospects and lives of the LGBTQ formerly incarcerated individual and their family.
