Pride March Ambassador Need to Know

Happy Pride Month!

First, thank you so much for joining us for the Stonewall Columbus Pride March 2022.  All of you are the reason that this event has continued to be amazing.  We truly appreciate your support and commitment. If you did not attended a training session please review the video and PowerPoint below.

We appreciate your patience as we finalize details for one of the largest pride events in the Midwest…actually the country! This year we’ve seen a tremendous amount of interest with over 200+ vendors, 240+ marching contingents, and well over 15,000 possible marchers. With an increased interest in marching and delayed response from participants some details have taken longer to finalize.

This year the March will step-off at Broad and High…marchers and floats will line-up south of Broad toward Rich Street.

There will be three check ins, group A will be at the intersection of  W. Broad at S. 3rd St, group B will be at the East intersection of E. Rich St and High Street and group C will be on the West intersection of W. Rich St. and High Street. Please note that we are placing LGBTQIA+ groups with priority in the march procession order, followed closely by groups exclusively with marching contingents in group A followed by groups B and C.

Check in will be from 8:30 AM – 10 AM, due safety and logistics we will not be able to take late check ins.  Please be sure you have your entire group together before checking in; you will want to decide on a meeting location outside of/away from the check in area.  Only the designated march Ambassadors of your group need to check in for everyone, at that time the Ambassador will be given your groups wristbands and t-shirts for all Ambassadors.  Please be sure your Ambassadors wear their t-shirt this is how our staff/volunteers can know whom to speak to if needed. EVERY MARCH PARTICIPANT MUST WEAR THEIR MARCH WRISTBANDS AND EVERY VEHICLE/FLOAT MUST HAVE A PLACARD IN THE WINDSHIELD.

We will proceed north on High Street towards the Short North with a moment of recognition at Goodale and High before proceeding to Buttles—marchers will turn left/west on Buttles and proceed to Goodale Park. If you are in a vehicle or have a float you will continue on High Street north past Buttles and be directed by a member of our team to remove anything that could fly off  of the vehicle—this will be you exit from the march.  There will be no locations for you to park any vehicles or floats so you will have to make plans to leave the area. Anyone on foot will need to proceed to the festival and will not be able to jump on floats or into vehicles that are existing the march.

Green is staging area; blue is the route and red is where anyone on foot will end the march.

The pink line below shows the exit for any vehicles or floats. There will be staff directing you.

Please be sure that all your group understands that you cannot throw any items from your floats or vehicles, you can have walkers hand items to people in the crowds.  The length of the march is about 2-3 hours long, so please ensure your contingent brings water and dresses accordingly.  Please be mindful that we need to be street legal, this is a public event.  There can’t be any alcohol consumption or possession of weapons in the march.  Please be sure that your group use the many trash cans that are being placed down High Street so that we can continue to have this event in our beautiful city.

Our utmost concern is to ensure the safety of all event attendees, with this consideration in mind and consultation from our security team this year some logistical information will not be shared until the week leading up to the 17th and 18th. We do apologize if this may cause any delay in communication with your respective pride event participants.

Here are the march rules for your review and to share with your groups.

We continue to ask for grace and space as we work to ensure one of the largest moments of recognition and celebration of LGBTQ+ identities is executed with the utmost care for those in attendance.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

HAPPY PRIDE!!!

Additional side street closure around staging area.
