Frequently Asked Questions
Do they need government ID?
They do not need a government ID to begin, because the curriculum includes a day when one of our partners — such as the BMV ID voucher program, Legal Aid, or Alvis — will come in to discuss how to obtain a government ID and help bridge that service gap.
We can also accept other forms of identification while participants work on securing their state ID, such as prison release paperwork, a Social Security card, or a birth certificate. Densil can also help clarify this process.
We could also build an ID acquisition step into the intake process so participants begin working toward their state ID before receiving a stipend in the program.
Do they need a permanent address?
We still need to explore this question due to IRS requirements. There may be options such as using our address, a P.O. box, or partnering with a local shelter to receive mail for participants.
Will you take 17-year-olds turning 18 in 2026?
If someone is 18 years old by the start of the program, we would consider them for the cohort.
Will there be job placement after 6 weeks?
Job placement is not guaranteed. However, during weeks 5 and 6, participants will tour cafés, roasting companies, and bookstores to support job placement efforts.
Before those tours, we will also develop a list of businesses that may be open to hiring participants from the program.
Can you join the program with a buddy or in pairs?
Yes. The snowball effect — inviting friends or others who may benefit — is a great way to spread the word. If both individuals meet the program requirements, they would be able to participate together.
Will lunch be provided as well?
Depending on the activity scheduled for the day, breakfast or lunch would be provided.
Is there travel assistance, such as bus passes?
I am currently working to finalize partnerships with Alvis House, the Office of Justice Policy and Programs, and COTA to help provide transportation support, which may include bus passes, vans, or shuttles.
