The Stonewall Columbus Community Center calls the Short North home, and today’s (11/16/24) neo-Nazi march through the area is deeply troubling. Demonstrations of hate and intolerance have no place in our community. The Short North and the greater Columbus area are home to a diverse and inclusive population that values unity, respect, and acceptance. Stonewall Columbus stands firmly against any attempts to instill fear or division among our residents. These unwelcome actions do not reflect the values of our city, and we remain committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all.
In recent years, we have witnessed a recurring presence of such hate groups targeting LGBTQ+ events in our city. Today’s events in the Short North may be seen as a continuation of these hateful acts, and we unequivocally reject their presence in our community. Their attempts to instill fear and division stand in stark contrast to the values upheld by Stonewall and the Columbus community. Columbus is a city that thrives on diversity and mutual respect, and we reject all forms of hate and intimidation.
We call on local authorities and community members to stand united against these acts of hatred. Ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, particularly those who live at the intersections of multiple marginalized communities, is imperative.
At Stonewall Columbus, we remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering an environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported. We will continue to work tirelessly to promote inclusivity and counteract any forces that seek to undermine the harmony of our community.
There is no space for hate in our district or city.
