Rita from COAAA is going to be talking about ‘Fall Prevention’. According to the CDC, more than one in four older adults report a fall each year, and more than 30% of people over 65 fall every year. About half of these falls are recurrent, and the percentage increases to around 40% for people aged 85 and above. In 2021, 38,742 older adults died from unintentional falls, which is 78.0 per 100,000 people. The fall-related death rate was higher for men (91.4 per 100,000) than for women (68.3). In 2022, 40,919 older adults aged 65 and older died from preventable falls.
