Written by Columbus resident, law professor and gay rights advocate Douglas Whaley, ‘The Turkey Men’ is based on true events, filled with humor, romance and pathos. It is the story of a teenage lesbian whose Evangelical parents have forced her into a clandestine therapy community where it is expected her captors will ‘pray-the-gay-away and she will be cured of her same- sex proclivities.
The secret location of this ex-gay ministry happens to be the home of two nearly discarnate ghosts—two gay men, lovers, that inhabit the rundown farmhouse on their old, abandoned turkey farm in central Ohio. These men, one from the North and one from the South, met and fell in love at Camp Chase, a Civil War prisoner of war camp in Columbus. These ghosts are moved to manifest themselves to the girl and guide her to accepting herself and helping her out of her current predicament.
