CITY PROCLAMATION
On May 18, City of New Albany Mayor Sloan Spalding signed a proclamation on behalf of New Albany City Council and residents of New Albany recognizing June of 2021 as Pride Month. The New Albany proclamation is the first of its kind. It’s intended to honor and support New Albany’s LGBTQ+ community; to encourage New Albany residents to learn about and celebrate diversity, equality, and inclusion; and to acknowledge the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community as a whole. The proclamation was submitted by Pride New Albany.
PRIDE NEW ALBANY DAY
The first ever Pride New Albany Day will take place on Thursday, June 24. Created in partnership with the New Albany Chamber of Commerce, it will be a day to recognize and support the LGBTQ+ community in New Albany and beyond. Feel free to wear Pride-themed clothing that day to show your support for LGBTQ+ members of all ages in our community. Business members of the New Albany Chamber will be mailed Pride New Albany window clings to display in their windows.
PRIDE BOOK SPOTLIGHT
Throughout June, the New Albany branch of Columbus Metropolitan Library will present a Pride Book Spotlight. The book display will feature a curated list of books and additional resources related to LGBTQ+ themes and issues and equality, as well as books about racial equality. Stop by to browse and check out books, and grab a handmade Pride-themed bookmark (while supplies last) created by students from the NAHS group SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Awareness).
PRIDE NEW ALBANY AT NEW ALBANY FARMERS MARKET
On June 24 from 4:00-7:00 p.m., we will set up a table at the first farmers market of the season in Market Square. Come say hello and learn more about our organization, and pick up a rainbow ribbon (while supplies last) made by students from SAGA.
