Meet the Sheroes: A Night of Jack’s/Summit Station Nostalgia

Join us for an amazing stroll down memory lane with 4 of the featured storytellers from the documentary #Free Beer Tomorrow. On this particular journey we are going to open the vaults of 1970s and 80’s Jack’s/Summit Station communities. Learn first hand about the courageous women (and a few guys) who were fight-the-power rabble rousers, first lovers, trailblazers and city champions of their time. Doors open at 630pm. Program begins at 715pm.

Joining us, and setting the tone for the evening, is local poet & artist Neena Marie (if you were at the Historical Marker Dedication, Neenah delivered our welcome poem). Come early and enjoy displays and memorabilia from “back in the day,” provided by our partners at Columbus Metropolitan Library and the Gay Ohio History Inititiave (GOHI) at the Ohio History Connection.  Celebrate National Coming Out Day and LGBTQ+ History Month in an atmosphere that will attempt to recreate the look and feel of a lesbian bar, complete with archival ephemera and the living legends who made the herstory happen!  Snacks and water will be provided.

Pat and Freddie: 47 years ago, Pat and Freddie had their first date at Jack’s. You don’t want to miss their charming story!

Phyl Gorman: Phyl has stories galore. Ask her about her Zippo-you won’t be sorry!

Teri Wehausen: When Teri had questions about her sexuality, her husband Fred sent her down the street to “check out the women’s bar.” Hear Teri talk about how that night came to be and what happened next!
