Join us as we continue our in-person Monthly Program series in partnership with and located at Grange Insurance Audubon Center on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Distinguished guest speaker Tom Sheley will make a presentation about the salmon effect. Sheley will discuss how the sheer biomass of salmon migrating to and from their spawning grounds is staggering and almost defies measurement. As this amazing life cycle evolved, so too did the dependency of many species of plants and animals on the rich food resource provided by the salmon. The transfer of nutrients from the Pacific Ocean to the ecosystems via migration is a key component of the salmon effect. Tom has spent time exploring the wilds of Katmai National Park and southwestern Alaska and shares observations of this unique, incredibly important, and fragile environment.
Arrive at 6:30pm to participate in the bird quiz, draw a door prize ticket, and enjoy refreshments. We will begin the February Monthly Program at 7:00pm with a Conservation Spotlight by Rob Swindell of Black River Audubon Society, who will be providing an update on conserving Cromwell Park. The Featured Presentation will begin immediately following the Conservation Spotlight. Winners for the door prize and bird quiz will be announced after the presentations.
