Blood Drive @ Stonewall

The American Red Cross urges healthy individuals to give blood and be the lifeline patients need this winter.

Donors of all blood types are urged to give now to keep the blood supply stable over the holidays. Blood donations often decline from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day, and the COVID-19 pandemic may further impact donations.

The Red Cross is testing blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies. As part of this effort, plasma from standard blood donations that test positive for COVID-19 antibodies may now help current coronavirus patients in need of convalescent plasma transfusions.

Due to recent changes in policy members of the LGBTQ+ community who wish to donate blood should review updated guidelines provided by the FDA.
Revised Recommendations for Reducing the Risk of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Transmission by Blood and Blood Products
Among others, the FDA is making the following changes, for immediate implementation, to the December 2015 guidance:

• For male donors who would have been deferred for having sex with another man: the agency is changing the recommended deferral period from 12 months to 3 months.
• For female donors who would have been deferred for having sex with a man who had sex with another man: the agency is changing the recommended deferral period from 12 months to 3 months.
• For those with recent tattoos and piercings: the agency is changing the recommended deferral period from 12 months to 3 months.
