What’s entailed?
The Board of Trustees is responsible for defining and upholding the organization’s mission, vision, and values and for providing overall strategic guidance to the organization and Executive Director/CEO. In addition to setting policies and maintaining the nonprofit’s overall direction, the Board establishes priorities, crafts strategies and ensures that plans and programs are implemented via the Executive Director/CEO. Board members are directly involved in the organization’s fundraising efforts.

What are the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Trustees?
As a Board member you are responsible for the fiscal oversight, fundraising efforts and governance of the organization.
Each Board member is asked to participate in one or more of the committees to help oversee areas such as programming, finance, communications, membership, Pride, Stonewall Builds Capital Campaign, Community Engagement.
Each Board member is expected to join as a member of Stonewall Columbus and actively work to meet the board’s minimum fundraising goal as established in the annual budget of $25,000.
How many Board positions are available?
The Board consists of no less than nine (9) or more than nineteen (19) Trustees.
What are the term limits for Board members?
Appointments to the Board shall be for two consecutive terms. The first term is a two-year term, with the second or consecutive term being for three years. Trustees who have served for two consecutive terms shall not be eligible for reelection until one year has elapsed after the end of their second term.
How often does the Board of Trustees meet?
The Board meets on average once a month. Special meetings of the Board may be called by the President.
What are the time commitments for a member of the Stonewall Board?
Board meetings last approximately 90 minutes. The time commitment for each committee is approx. 2-4 hours per month on average. The Board is also responsible for assisting with annual Stonewall Columbus PRIDE events.
Are members of the Stonewall Board compensated?
The Board is an all-volunteer board – no member receives any monetary compensation for service.
Is there a fundraising obligation for members of the Board?
Yes. Each year the members of the Board determine the combined target they will work to collectively raise to support the organizations programs and services.
