As we head into Pride Month, let us be clear:
Stonewall Columbus stands unequivocally against Ohio House Bill 249—a dangerous and discriminatory piece of legislation that seeks to restrict public drag performances and, by extension, suppress queer and trans visibility throughout our state.
This bill is not about public safety—it is about political erasure. It targets the artistic expression, joy, and identity of LGBTQ+ people, especially trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming individuals. It uses fear to mask bigotry. And it mirrors a growing national trend to legislate our communities out of public life.
But we know this truth: Pride was born from protest. And we do not back down.
At Stonewall Columbus, we will continue to celebrate drag as a form of expression, as cultural resistance, and as a living legacy of queer liberation. From libraries and schools to main stages and street corners, drag has long been a beacon of courage and creativity—and it will remain one.
To LGBTQ+ Ohioans, especially those feeling targeted or unseen in this moment: We see you. We stand with you. You are not alone.
To our allies and accomplices: Your solidarity must be louder than their legislation. Now is the time to show up—at the polls, in the streets, and in defense of our community.
Pride is protest. Pride is power. Pride is presence. And Stonewall Columbus will continue to stand proudly, visibly, and unapologetically—Pride month and every month.
