@ Three Creeks Metro Park
We will meet at the main park entrance off of Bixby Road at the Confluence Trail shelter house at the very end of the park drive. There are restrooms located near the shelter house. See map below for more information. The hike will leave promptly at 10:30 AM so please arrive a bit early!
The hike is a round-trip to Herron Pond starting at the Confluence Trails area next to Turtle Pond. We will start on the Alum Creek Greenway Trail (purple trail). IF it isn’t muddy, we’ll take a right turn shortly after the first bridge on to the Confluence Trail. This takes us past the confluence of the three creeks which lend their name to the park (Alum Creek, Blacklick Creek, Big Walnut Creek). This is the only part of the trail that is NOT paved and it can be muddy and slippery in parts but in no way dangerous. This trail then rejoins the Alum Creek Greenway Trail (right turn when the unpaved trail returns to the pavement). We will end at Herron Pond and then we will hike back to our starting point via the Alum Creek Greenway Trail. All in it’s just under 4 miles will take about 1.5 hours, which includes plenty of leisure time to enjoy the wildlife!
A couple of things to point out to folks … this trail is heavily used by bicycles and joggers so it will be important to KEEP RIGHT. And it is dog friendly as long as people pick up after their dogs.
