The encounter represents a potential coup for Syd at her job\, but it also opens the door to Lucy’s life lived at the edge. What begins as a close working relationship between the two women quickly becomes more intense. Winner of the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival and an Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress for Ally Sheedy. A Q&A with the director follows the screening. SUMMARY:Winter Kept Us Warm
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: $10 general public\, $8 Wexner Center members and adults over 55\, $5 students \nThis overlooked Canadian indie gem was one of the first queer films at the Cannes Film Festival. \nThe indie film Winter Kept Us Warm may have been the first English-language Canadian film to screen at the Cannes Film Festival\, but it has remained in relative obscurity for many years. The film follows Doug (John Labow)\, a popular senior at the University of Toronto who takes shy freshman Peter (Henry Tarvainen) under his wing. Both have girlfriends\, but as their friendship grows\, Doug begins to develop especially strong feelings for Peter. Director David Secter had to keep the relationship at the center of the film ambiguous due to the era in which it was made\, but when viewed today the tension is undeniable. A groundbreaking film in the development of Canadian cinema\, Winter Kept Us Warm paved the way for other Canadian queer filmmakers such as John Greyson\, Bruce LaBruce\, and Patricia Rozema. Introduced by David Marriott\, cofounder of Arbelos Films and Canadian International Pictures. (81 mins.\, 4K DCP)

SUMMARY:Tiny Table Talks: Is My Existence Political?
DESCRIPTION:We live in a time when anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and rhetoric seem to grow louder with each passing day. What happens when this conversation doesn’t just exist in news headlines or political debates but enters our homes—sitting with us at the dinner table\, between family and friends\, or even in spaces that once felt safe? \nHow do we navigate the elephant in the room\, stampeding closer with every comment\, every headline\, every law passed? \nFor LGBTQ+ individuals\, politics has rarely been about party alone. It’s about strategy for survival\, for dignity\, and for equality. But can we truly “agree to disagree” when our very right to exist\, to love\, and to live authentically is up for debate? Is the act of existing openly as an LGBTQ+ person inherently political? Is visibility itself a form of protest? \nTiny Table Talks is an intimate conversation series presented by Stonewall Columbus\, designed to explore and celebrate the depth and diversity of the LGBTQ+ experience. Each discussion is a mosaic of perspectives\, shedding light on the nuanced realities of queer life. This series is a tribute to the power of dialogue in fostering understanding\, respect\, and growth. \nTiny Table Talks aims to create a reflective space where we can collectively deconstruct stigmas\, challenge stereotypes\, and build solidarity. It is a call to gather\, learn\, and grow as a community\, recognizing that while the table may be small\, the potential for impact is vast. Join us as we engage in these powerful discussions\, nurture connections\, and inspire action towards a more inclusive world.
