SUMMARY:Adventure Pride
DESCRIPTION:Hit the trails with us on YOUR next adventure!\n\nPlease complete the form below to share more about yourself and which activities you’re interested in joining.  The information you provide will only be shared with the program facilitator and staff at Stonewall – your contact information will only be used for the express purpose of this program\, unless you opt in to receiving our monthly newsletter. \nHere is some info about this year’s activities that may help you decide which are best for you: \n\nAll activities meet at 10am on Saturdays\nThe specific meet-up locations will be emailed to you on the Friday before each outing\nWe will share details about each location\, to the best of our knowledge\, including ADA accessibility\, difficulty level\, and if pets are welcome (service animals are always welcome)\nThe facilitator will have a liability waiver for you to sign before the start of each outing\n\n\nOur facilitator is Gabe McDonald (he/him)!\nMore about Gabe:\nHello fellow queer adventurers! My name is Gabe and I’m beyond thrilled to join Stonewall Columbus as the Adventure Pride Facilitator. I am a Columbus native and lived in Boston for 10 years before returning to my home state to live my exuberant queer life here in the Midwest. I currently live in the Short North with my amazing daughter and my delightfully silly dog. \nI’m an engineer by day but love to get outside and experience the wholeness of the wild\, natural world. I love rock climbing\, mud races\, kayaking\, gardening\, painting\, and improv. My most recent adventure was a 130-mile solo kayaking trip that left from Columbus and followed the Scioto River until it merged into Ohio River. It was as fun as it was challenging\, and the time in nature empowered me to connect to my inner strength and beauty. \nI hope to use my role at Stonewall to do some of my favorite things: connecting with people\, honoring my body through movement\, and being out in nature. I’m so excited to meet you all as we go on outdoor adventures and explore some of the amazing space central Ohio has to offer. \n

SUMMARY:Authors at the Library with Dorian Rhea Debussy
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Dorian Rhea Debussy to discuss her engaging\, meticulously researched new book on the evolution of anti-LGBTQ+ policies in the American military and intelligence community.\nAuthors at the Library with DORIAN RHEA DEBUSSY\nSaturday\, June 13 | 1 p.m.\nAuditorium | Main Library | 96 S. Grant Ave.\n12 p.m. | Library opens\, book sale by The Book Loft\n1 p.m. | Author Talk with Dorian Rhea Debussy\n1:45 p.m.| Audience Q&A\n2:00 p.m. | Book sale and signing \nABOUT THE AUTHOR\nDorian Rhea Debussy\, Ph.D.\, is the Director of External Affairs at Equitas Health. A nationally recognized expert in LGBTQ+ politics\, she specializes in healthcare and defense policy. Debussy is also a Lecturer in Women’s\, Gender\, and Sexuality Studies at The Ohio State University. Her new book\, The Lavender Bans: A Century of Anti-LGBTQ+ Policies in the US Military\, was published by Columbia University Press in March 2026. \nABOUT THE BOOK\nThere is a long history of discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in the American military and intelligence services\, from vice squad stings during World War I to the “Lavender Scare” of the early Cold War through “Don’t Ask\, Don’t Tell” and the Trump administration’s transgender ban. How have the rationales for anti-LGBTQ+ policies changed over time? When and why did these policies shift? What does anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination reveal about the US military\, American political institutions\, and broader themes in queer history? \nThe Lavender Bans is a comprehensive account of the evolution of anti-LGBTQ+ policies from World War I to the present. Dorian Rhea Debussy—a leading expert on LGBTQ+ history in the US military—examines six distinct periods of exclusion over the course of a century\, tracing continuities and changes alongside the growth of the national security state. Bringing together interdisciplinary scholarship and close analysis of archival documents\, she offers new insights into the policies affecting LGBTQ+ people in the armed forces. \nMeticulously researched and rich in detail\, The Lavender Bans sheds light on a long and troubling history—with deep contemporary relevance as exclusion of transgender people continues. It is an engaging\, important\, and timely book for a range of readers\, including scholars\, students\, policy makers\, military personnel\, and people affected by anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination. \nEVENT DETAILS\nThe event is free to the public but due to limited seating\, registration is requested.\nDr. Debussy’s book will be sold on site by The Book Loft.\nParking available in Main Library’s attached garage\, while available.
